A Tribute to One of Our Founding Members, Bonnie Pike
On Wednesday, October 5th, we gathered for a picnic at a local park to honour one of our founding members, Bonnie Pike.
Here’s what we had to say…
We’re here to honour Bonnie Pike and to thank her for all that she has done for the APG.

Bonnie is one of our founding members, and we here today are so lucky that she and her like-minded friends decided to come together to create the Almonte Potters Guild.
Bonnie served as the Chair of the APG Executive for most if not all of the last 20+years, and was a constant, patient, generous leader to all who served with her.
I was lucky enough to serve on the Board for 3 years with Bonnie at the helm, and I admired her gentle leadership. With her soft, low tones, she could calm the waters of dissent, and lead us back to fruitful discussion. (at least most of the time!)

I have to say, if you are at all anxious, talk to Bonnie for awhile. Her easy way and soothing cadence can lower the blood pressure of all who speak with her. She just makes you feel better.

Behind the scenes, Bonnie has also worked tirelessly. Over the years, she has quietly supplied the studio with the things that it needed, whether it was shelving, benches, or refrigerators. She has painted, scrubbed, organized, and washed those curtains more times than she could probably count, to say nothing of the towels and tablecloths that have passed through her washer and dryer. She never draws attention to her actions, just goes about her business like the class act that she is.

When it comes to pottery, Bonnie’s work is always unique and one of a kind, just like her. Whether it’s her little people, her big bowls, or her children’s moccasins made to honour the lost and now found Indigenous children, she puts joy and love into all that she makes.

As we make changes at the studio so that we can continue the legacy of our founding members well into the future, it is always heartwarming to us to see one of Bonnie’s big bowls on the back shelf. It reminds me of importance of continuity, and of honouring those who have done the work to get us to where we are today.

I am thankful, as we all are, that Bonnie remains a contributing member of the studio, even when her grandma duties call her away from us. If you want to see real joy, just ask her about her grandkids!
